First Presbyterian Men’s Group

At First Presbyterian Church, the Men’s Group is part of the Mission committee.  Our purpose is to provide support and assistance to church and to reach out into the community to serve needs of our Fayette County area neighbors.  The Men’s Group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM at the church in the Choir room.  We discuss the ways we can provide our assistance to the areas of need that have come to our attention and discuss any new opportunities.  Please feel free to contact any of the men that make up our team for additional information of just come to one of our meetings.  Note: please check the monthly church calendar to confirm the date and time of the next meeting.

Current 2015 Men;s Group Activities –

For 2015, we continue to look for community needs we can support and we are catching up on needs directly at the church.  We have painted and organized the janitor’s closet. We also removed the old First Presbyterian Church outside side in preparation of the arrival of the new Church Sign.  We are also supporting yard maintenance for one of our church members.  We also have several additional church activities proposed for 2015 including some additional painting and minor repairs and possible reconditioning on the church manse.

2014 Men;s Group Project -

In 2014, members of our Mission team leadership (Mary Stanhope and Mary Lou McElroy), notified the Men’s Group of a service opportunity to help an lady living in the Round Top area in very challenging conditions. This elderly woman, Vivian, was living in a 24 foot by 12 foot un-insulated cabin. In the summers, the cabin was hot even though she had an AC window unit and in the winters it was cold; sometimes so cold that she would go to her car to run the heater to warm up. With support from Mary and Mary Lou in Late July, several of our men examined the site and identified the work we would be able to perform to make the cabin more livable and safe. We determined that installing insulation and paneling on the interior walls and ceiling of the cabin was the most important thing we could do. We also identified additional needs included leveling the floor, rebuilding the front porch columns and railings and installing new light fixtures and ceiling fans to make the cabin more comfortable and safe. The First Presbyterian Men’s Group acquired the needed materials and started the work in late-August and finished it over the span of one week. We had great cooperation from members of our Men’s Group including Larry Grigsby (our project foreman), Bill Billings, W.O. Wood, James Benes, Larry Gruetzmacher, Randy Jungmichel, and Wade Blakey.  Vivian has on multiple occasions expressed her gratitude for the work that God guided us to perform.
