Description
"...do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others living in Jerusalem?  No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish just as they did."
Luke 13:4-5
SERMON NOTES: As Jesus preaches repentance, he hits a nerve. The next words out of the crowd are a self-justifying if sordid story about Pontius Pilate, the Roman Prefect. Pilate took a dislike to some Galileans who'd come to make sacrifice. He had them killed and their blood co-mingled on the altar. Pilate is certainly a sinner—no doubt—but the people are pointing out the shortcomings of the Galileans he's had killed! It's as if to say, Look how bad they must have sinned to have something so heinous happen to them! We're not so bad... compared to THAT. With head shaking frustration, Jesus replies with the God's own truth... all who fail to repent, perish.
