In the final Sunday before Advent, we celebrate the Reign of Christ and hail Christ as King. Jesus talks to his disciples about the kingdom by talking about the king and his subjects. The one who bears the "name above all names" says that he will be encountered in those on the margins, the powerless and helpless, who go without notice. We might wonder what it means that neither "sheep" or "goats" were aware of their behavior, until the king speaks. How might Christ's words open our eyes and the eyes of our hearts?
