When Martin Luther nailed a list of "talking points" on the door to Wittenberg Castle church, he wanted to heal the church of some spiritually bankrupt practices. At the forefront, the sale of plenary indulgences that ancient "get out of purgatory free" card whose proceeds were funding the construction of St Peter's Basilica. His biblical studies gave rise to a renewed understanding of God's reconciling work in Jesus Christ, and brought into being our Presbyterian mantra—ecclesia reformata, semper reformanda—the church reformed and always being reformed according to the word of God. After more than five centuries, I wonder... How are we being re-formed today?
