Team Butterfly

Butterflies are beautiful, strong but delicate creatures capable of reaching infinite heights. And a group of First Presbyterian Church "butterflies" can also run and walk.

First Presbyterian Church in La Grange has a group of walkers and runners that participate in the Houston Half Marathon, each January, to honor the memory of one child and raise funds for hundreds more. "Team Butterfly," as the group is known, raises thousands of dollars to benefit Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services (PCHAS). PCHAS provides Christ-centered care and support for struggling children and families through Its agencies here in Texas, Louisiana, and Missouri. Over the past 110 years, they have created programs that have greatly improved children's lives - enabling their recovery from abuse, abandonment, and other forms of neglect.

PCHAS also reaches out and works closely with their parents, some of whom struggle with drug and/or alcohol addiction, unemployment, poverty, depression, and other obstacles to healthy parenting.

Team Butterfly La Grange is the second chapter of Team Butterfly which originated out of Southminster Presbyterian Church, In the Missouri City/Sugar Land area (Houston), formed in support of one of its members, whose daughter was killed In an automobile accident in 2003. Because this young woman had trained for and ran the Houston Marathon In 2001, the team got together to take on the challenge to honor her memory.

Participation In Team Butterfly continues to grow In number each year, offering one another support along the way. We would be so pleased to have more members come along with Katie Gross, Molly Leach, Bobble Nash, Renata Leach and Pam Hurst and join in the challenge! As we all fundraise for Presbyterian Children's Home and Services, we offer support to the wonderfully caring effort to offer new life - a new piece for the children and families associated with PCHAS on their life journey.
