"We love because God first loved us." At the center of biblical witness and the heart of the gospel stands the recognition of God's love. A favorite seminary professor was fond of saying that our God is the God who loves in freedom. God's love comes to us not as a response to our loveliness or reward for our worthiness, God's love comes to us because THAT is who God is. God is love. This was a lesson we need to hear again and again. God loves so that we might be empowered to lay aside our fear and truly love one another.
