MUSIC DIRECTOR

Janet Parker

  Send Email  •  (979)968-9424

Janet and Buzz Parker moved to La Grange in 2005 from Owego, New York. A native of Long island, Janet studied music at Ithaca College where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and a Masters of Music in Applied Voice. Between degrees, she nurtured her life-long creativity as a fabric store employee and knitting teacher while Buzz played jazz trumpet in the U.S. Army Field Band.

After graduation, Janet taught middle school general music. When the challenge of full-time vocal performance called to her, she traded music education for opera. She was vocalist with over a dozen orchestras, singing music that extended from the baroque to twentieth century. After several years on stage, Janet “retired” from the road and returned to teaching at the Owego Free Academy. When she and Buzz became eligible for early retirement, they moved to LaGrange. In retirement, Janet has been a terrific addition to our music staff.

Janet enjoys quilting and has served as president of the Colorado Valley Quilt Guild, joined the work of our “Thursday Quilters.” Janet enjoys playing the piano, sewing, knitting, crochetting, gardening, reading, cooking, baking, and making her own cleaning and laundry products (a gift to the environment). She is also devoted to her Irish Setter, Brady.
