Description
In this story, Jacob comes full circle as he faces the full consequences of his actions. After 20 years in Laban's service, he is (gently?) escorted to the boarder and faces an oncoming army belonging to his brother Esau. Little by little, he divides his possessions, his servants, his household, until he stands alone on the banks of the Jabbok. We are present as Jacob experiences what has been called a "dark night of the soul."
