In these last days before Lent, we arrive once again at the Mount of the Transfiguration. Jesus takes a few disciples with him up the mountain. They witness him—transformed, shining, his divinity on display as he talks with Moses and Elijah. As they come down the mountain, Jesus sets his face toward Jerusalem, toward the execution that will come. The disciples FOLLOW him into the gathering darkness. I believe the clarity of that mountaintop vision carried the disciples through the turmoil to come. They KNOW they're following the Son of God, so they hold fast to his path. Clarity, simplicity, knowing, following—these are the gifts of God for the people of God.
