Description

As Jesus' ministry gets underway, Mark's gospel points out a pattern: Jesus preaches, teaches, and heals those who seek him and then he spends time in prayer before moving on to bring the kingdom message to others. He calls people to use the gifts and talents they already possess in ways that further the kingdom of God. The one who came—not to be served, but to serve—restores the people to serve one another with all the experience and expertise their lives provide. Fishers are called to a vocation "fishing" for people. Peter's mother-in-law is restored to a ministry of hospitality and becomes the first "deacon" in the New Testament. So I wonder, what is Jesus calling forth in us as he renews us for service. How might we use our gifts, talents, and experience to proclaim the kingdom of God?
