SERMON NOTES: Paul has dealt with many of the issues pressing the church in Corinth, and now he turns to bedrock of the gospel; preaching in the face of resistance to the message of resurrection. Paul is clear that followers are able to deny gospel—to "believe in vain." He knows believers can cast aside their hope in Jesus Christ. Paul confesses his own need for God's grace and, by that same grace, he shares the good news on which he stands. Then he invites the Corinthians (and us) to find solid ground in God's love—a love that breaks the chains of sin and death and liberates us to belong wholly to God and each other.
