Description
First Corinthians 12:12–31 is a teaching on the spiritual gifts as they cooperate to empower God's will for the church. The Christian church is like a human body, one individual organism made up of many different parts that serve a wide variety of functions. All those functions matter. Paul helps us to see that the church is one body with many members and so it is with Christ. The passage may also be interpreted as emphasizing the importance of grace and charity, which are more excellent than gifts.
