It's a new day. John the baptizer is out at the Jordan River and God gets in line to receive baptism as a sign of repentance. God—in Jesus Christ—steps into our human condition and elevates it until we too can be called beloved sons and daughters and children of God. What did the people see and hear that day at the Jordan? Did they see the holy anointing of a savior who walked in our shoes? Did they hear the blessing that becomes a blessing for us all? Can we see it, hear it, live it out in our lives; the call and promise of our own baptism as children of the living God?
