In a week when we have celebrated Juneteenth, this scheduled lection seems timely. A slavegirl from Northern Africa and her mixed race child are cast out when fear grips the owner's heart. I wonder—does the timing help us hear the story afresh? What might it teach us about the power of our fear? Does God's intervention in this family drama have the power to inspire as we struggle with the today's persistent cultural divisions?
