This Victory Psalm is the soundtrack to the Palm Parade that unfolded in first-century Jerusalem. It set up expectations of what was to come. These expectations set up the conflict that swept Jesus into the hands of the religious authorities and into the power of Pontius Pilate. How shall we hear this victory song? Will we continue the journey with Jesus as the shouts of victory become cries for crucifixion? What will we touch our hearts as we rehearse the familiar stories of Holy Week: a holy meal, prayer in a garden, betrayal, wholesale desertion, a mock trial, a nakedly brutal execution, and the dark silence of the tomb? In this season, we are challenged to walk with Jesus through the valley of shadow, so that we might come to the blessed light of Easter's dawn.
