How do we weigh our actions? How do we order our lives? The Psalm suggests we use the word of God, which revives the soul, illuminates the mind, rejoices the heart, and enlightens the eye. God's word and particularly God's commandments teach and guide us in what it means to live as God's people—to live as those loved by God. After singing God's praises and giving thanks for God's teaching, the psalmist pleads with God to "clear me from hidden faults," in ways that render our interior motivation and our external actions acceptable to the God in whom we trust.
